I can't answer that one for you but sometimes magic can happen when you re-imagine a piece of music on an instrument it was never written for and carefully approach the barriers you run into when you try. You will get better results when 'programming' a believable guitar performance if you can already play guitar, as you will know how it should be articulated. Rhythmic muting is quite hard to articulate on a keyboard. There is also muting (which is when you apply almost no pressure on the fretting hand to produce an atonal thud).

Varying degrees of pressure/velocity on the fretting and picking hand changes the amount of staccato/legato you get. To program this articulation in a piano roll or reproduce it on a keyboard would be exhausting and some arrangements just aren't possible unless you well, re-arrange them. Picking distance from the bridge also produces a very different tone and this is something you vary in performance. The main problem you will have is authentic articulation - slides, bends, vibrato, natural + artificial harmonics and chording with open strings (so when playing chords, fretted notes do not release the same way that open strings do).įinger picking with your nails or a plectrum produces a very different tone to picking with the pads of your fingers.
